JJ Adams, the son of a Baptist preacher, immigrated from Plymouth, UK, to Cape Town, South Africa, as a child in the early eighties.

Adams discovered his fondness for vibrant colour and graphic art during his youth spent at the studio of South African contemporary landscape artist Derric van Rensburg. JJ Adams, while working as an apprentice at “Wildfire Tattoos,” a busy tattoo studio in central Cape Town, studied graphic design at Cape College.

In 1998, he went back to the UK and pursued his studies in commercial printing at the Plymouth College of Art and Design. He has worked as a freelance graphic designer and sign maker before finally breaking into fine art.

Prior to his entry into the world of fine art, he had previous experience as a freelance graphic designer and sign maker. JJ Adams employs various mixed media, including spray paint, hand-painted acrylics, screen printing, digital matte painting, and photography.

JJ is rapidly becoming one of the most discussed artists in the UK. In his work, Adams utilises a variety of both new and mixed media, including but not limited to spray paint, hand-painted acrylics, screen printing, collage, and digital matte painting.
