Paul has many bows to his fiddle, an accomplished artist is what he is best known for but this very talented man is both a composer and Pianist. His art is expressed through his love of Wildlife, animals and landscapes in the main.
His drive and dogged determination has enabled him to succeed by his positive attitude to life and through the application to his work…..I guess you could sum that up as …Passionate about life….
Paul and his wife Linda, now live in the South of Ireland, Paul having grown up in Leicestershire. Being encouraged by his teachers, he attended Art college to study graphic design but through his rebellious nature, he left to pursue his own vision of how he wanted his life to be and began painting classic cars, taking commissions for neighbours, to paint their beloved pets….it literally began raining cats and dogs…
His career in music simultaneously took off, playing the piano and organ in pubs, clubs and cocktail bars…life was great…..But his passion for painting returned to him and in 1986, he launched his Professional career as an artist and began his long and to this day, long and beautiful journey. His love of the countryside around him in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire, inspired him and gave him huge influences to create through atmosphere in his early landscapes and paintings, for which he became known and renowned.
With a style that is incredible in its detail and takes a very long time to achieve perfection , his work is always revered for the almost photo realism within his works, for which he draws inspiration from his own photographic references.
Paul and Linda publish their work together after many years being published by several big names such as, Washington Green, Solomon & Whitehead, Gordon Frazer and Blazing editions. Having lived on a narrow boat “ FOOLS PARADISE” , some may say, the most enviable of lifestyles, he gained much of his inspirations to paint, whilst Linda set up her stall and sold directly off the toe path…..How romantic is that ? Eventually, as his work outgrew the boat, they moved to Ireland in 2004, where he has cemented his reputation by participating in a number of events, including the Wexford Opera Festival and playing piano in a theatre bar in dublin.
Although Paul has been painting professionally for over 25 years, he feels he is really only at the beginning, with many new ideas to paint animals and landscapes from around the world.
About The Artist
A leading contemporary animal and landscape realist painter renowned for the skill and craftsmanship with which he depicts the fine detail and realism of the many textures portrayed within his imagery.
He is an exceptionally gifted and unique animal and landscape artist. Essentially self-taught, Paul began painting professionally in 1986 and it was the haunting beauty of Charnwood forest that greatly influenced his early atmospheric landscape, together with his animal portraiture for which he has perfected a style of his own.
The originality of his compositions along with the attention to detail means that his works take time. Paul dedicates himself to each piece with a passion rarely seen in today commercial art world, insisting on the freedom to paint the subjects he chooses which allows him creative flexibility, and its this freedom that keeps his work fresh and current.
