Paul has many bows to his fiddle, an accomplished artist is what he is best known for but this very talented man is both a composer and Pianist. His art is expressed through his love of Wildlife, animals and landscapes in the main.

His drive and dogged determination has enabled him to succeed by his positive attitude to life and through the application to his work…..I guess you could sum that up as …Passionate about life….

Paul and his wife Linda, now live in the South of Ireland, Paul having grown up in Leicestershire. Being encouraged by his teachers, he attended Art college to study graphic design but through his rebellious nature, he left to pursue his own vision of how he wanted his life to be and began painting classic cars, taking commissions for neighbours, to paint their beloved pets….it literally began raining cats and dogs…

His career in music simultaneously took off, playing the piano and organ in pubs, clubs and cocktail bars…life was great…..But his passion for painting returned to him and in 1986, he launched his Professional career as an artist and began his long and to this day, long and beautiful journey. His love of the countryside around him in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire, inspired him and gave him huge influences to create through atmosphere in his early landscapes and paintings, for which he became  known and renowned.

With a style that is incredible in its detail and takes a very long time to achieve perfection , his work is always revered for the almost photo realism within his works, for which he draws inspiration from his own photographic references.

Paul and Linda publish their work together after many years being published by several big names such as, Washington Green, Solomon & Whitehead, Gordon Frazer and Blazing editions. Having lived on a narrow boat “ FOOLS PARADISE” , some may say, the most enviable of lifestyles, he gained much of his inspirations to paint, whilst Linda set up her stall and sold directly off the toe path…..How romantic is that ? Eventually, as his work outgrew the boat, they moved to Ireland in 2004, where he has cemented his reputation by participating in a number of events, including the Wexford Opera Festival and playing piano in a theatre bar in Dublin.

Although Paul has been painting professionally for over 25 years, he feels he is really only at the beginning, with many new ideas to paint animals and landscapes from around the world.

About The Artist

Original Sketches Collection Browse Paul James

Paul James, the accomplished artist, is widely recognised for his exceptional talent. However, this multifaceted individual is not only a composer but also a skilled pianist. His true artistic expression is brought to life through his love for wildlife, animals, and breathtaking landscapes.

Driven by his unwavering determination and positive outlook on life, Paul has achieved great success in his career. His passion for his craft can be summed up as an unwavering love for life itself.

Originally hailing from Leicestershire, Paul now resides with his wife Linda in the scenic South of Ireland. Despite initially pursuing a study of graphic design in art college, Paul’s rebellious nature led him down a different path. He found inspiration in painting classic cars and accepting commissions to immortalise beloved pets for his neighbours. As the saying goes, it began raining cats and dogs.

Composer

Simultaneously, Paul’s musical career took off as he played the piano and organ in various venues such as pubs, clubs, and cocktail bars. Life was truly splendid. However, his passion for painting resurfaced, leading him to embark on his professional journey as an artist in 1986. Since then, he has captivated audiences with his landscapes and paintings, infused with the atmospheric charm of Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire.

Paul’s artistic style is remarkable, characterised by intricate detail that demands painstaking effort to achieve perfection. His works are revered for their near-photorealistic quality, drawing inspiration from his own photographic references.

For many years, Paul and Linda have collaborated, publishing their work together. Initially, their work found a home with esteemed names such as Washington Green, Solomon & Whitehead, Gordon Frazer, and Blazing editions. Their remarkable lifestyle aboard the “FOOLS PARADISE,” a narrow boat, provided them with much inspiration. While Linda sold their artwork directly from the toe path, Paul continued to create masterpieces. It was a truly romantic existence. Eventually, their work outgrew the boat, prompting their relocation to Ireland in 2004. There, Paul’s reputation thrived as he participated in various events, including the Wexford Opera Festival, and showcased his piano skills at a theater bar in Dublin.

Despite having painted professionally for over 25 years, Paul believes he is merely at the beginning of his artistic journey. He is brimming with new ideas to capture the beauty of animals and landscapes from all corners of the world. As he continues to evolve as an artist, the possibilities are boundless.
