Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1967, a country of intense passion and political power at the time, Fabian is a believer in the romantic world and of the belief that women and men have defined roles but power is not always the goal.
Having come through a very difficult childhood, where both his parents died before he was 20, he was thrust into a world of loss and not knowing his path. His father was a Gambler, Nightclub and Bordello owner, which were both immoral and illegal at the time. Many a time spent, he recalls visits from police and jail time for his father, with his father trying to run out of the back door before he was caught….going to the jail to try and see his father was not always possible.
His mother was also an artistic person and encouraged a young Fabian to develop his talent for Art and to keep him off the streets…drawing and painting a great deal and proudly displaying them on the walls at home.
The passion within Fabian’s work comes from a place deep within him, through the memories of his fathers life and his own despair, having a depth of sadness that left him confused and searching , to live a life as a gypsy for several years. Turning to martial arts, he began to teach Karate, whilst living with friends and in martial arts studios. It is here that he met with Oscar Higa, a Japanese Karate master, who went on to become his friend, mentor, teacher and father figure. Having spent some time in Rio in a nomadic existence, he finally decided to pull himself together and followed Oscar to Italy. It was there that his career as an artist began, in the small town of Padova, just outside of Venice.
Eventually, after seven years in Italy and having travelled extensively, he decided to move to Japan, continuing his teachings of karate, which went on to influence him in his paintings, fluid movement to replicate flamenco and dance.
Today, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Luciana and their three children. She is often the subject within his paintings and stops short of not ever saying No to what Fabian desires in his work….she will always be his muse..Painting in the mornings or early afternoons, when the light is at its best and using mostly acrylic, he creates his dark, brooding and sensual works of art, preferring to give an idea and not every detail, painting the mood with colour to give the sense of what is being felt by the voyeur….
About The Artist
Fabian is enjoying unparalleled success at present with all of his work, original and published, receiving a rapturous reception both in the UK and internationally. The accolades continue to roll in, the latest being the prestigious Artist of the Year 2014 award from the Italian Academy of Artists and the highly coveted Art Tour International Magazine Master of Contemporary Art’ award.
Fabian was named as official artist to the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He has also been acknowledged in his homeland of Argentina with a rare government funded public exhibition for the nation – a huge tribute to an internationally acclaimed fine artist who has brought credit to his country.
He is now one of the world’s most collected artists, with celebrity admirers ranging from sporting superstars including Sugar Ray Leonard, Shaquille O’Neal and Lionel Messi, to musicians Scott Weiland, Rihanna, Shakira and Phil Campbell, comedian John Bishop, actors Micky Rourke, Mario Lopez and Megan Fox, singer song writer Juan Gabriel, President of the Latin Grammy Awards Gabriel Abora, President of the American Grammy Awards Neil Portnow; he was recently a guest at the Vatican where he presented Pope Francis with his portrait which now hangs in the Pontiff’s personal private collection.
As one of the foremost figurative artists of our time Fabian has become an exceptional global entity. Over the years he has explored many different paths in his search for greater self expression and artistic truth and his work brings together a broad range of life stories drawn from many sources close to his heart. From the geisha of Japan’s flower towns to the couples who haunt the night clubs of Buenos Aires, all these characters have a story to tell of their disparate and intriguing lives.
